Text: Philippians 3:8-11

Introduction

The ultimate goal of Christ’s coming to Earth was to transform the people of Earth into the people of Heaven. As believers, our lives should reflect this heavenly reality. Jesus came to reconcile us to the Father and to establish a relationship not only between us and God but also among ourselves as His people.

To truly follow Christ, we must seek to know Him intimately, understand the power of His resurrection, and partake in His sufferings.

1. Knowing Who Jesus Is (1 John 5:20, Philippians 3:8-10)

Knowing Jesus goes beyond just hearing about Him; it requires a deep, personal relationship. 1 John 5:20 tells us that Jesus came to give us understanding so that we may know the true God. Paul, in Philippians 3:8-10, considered everything else as loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ. This knowledge transforms our lives, bringing us closer to God’s heart and aligning us with His will.

2. Knowing the Power of His Resurrection

The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of our faith. It signifies victory over sin, death, and the power of the enemy. When we understand the power of His resurrection, we live with confidence, knowing that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in us (Romans 8:11). It empowers us to overcome challenges, live righteously, and walk in the authority given to us as children of God.

3. Knowing His Suffering

Many want to experience the power of His resurrection, but few are willing to share in His suffering. However, Jesus Himself said that His followers would face trials and persecution (John 16:33). Paul longed to know Christ, not just in His glory but also in His suffering. Suffering for Christ’s sake refines our faith, builds endurance, and deepens our dependence on God.

Conclusion

The ultimate goal of every believer should be to know Jesus deeply, experience the power of His resurrection, and embrace His suffering with joy. As we pursue this goal, our lives will reflect His glory, and we will be prepared for eternity with Him. Let us, like Paul, press on toward this goal, counting all else as loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ.
