True definition
You are the true definition of the Church. When we talk about the Church, it's important to realize that the Church is not just a building. The Bible clearly tells us that your body is the temple of the Lord (1 Corinthians 6:19). When Scripture speaks of the temple, it isn’t referring to the physical structure or building, but to your body.
If the Church were merely a building, then what about those who rent a hall for service on Sunday, where others may have thrown a party the night before? Does that mean Christ won’t be present there? No! His presence is not tied to the building but to you, the believer, because your body is the temple of the Lord.
Maintaining God's Temple:
How are you maintaining His temple—your body? Have you turned it into a marketplace like the people in John 2:16? Jesus, upon entering the temple, saw merchants selling doves and other items and said, "Get these things out of here! Don't turn my Father's house into a marketplace!" (John 2:16). The temple was meant for worship, not for business or personal gain. In the same way, your body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit, is meant to be kept holy and pure, dedicated to God.
Jesus’ disciples remembered the Scripture: "Passion for God's house burns within me" (John 2:17). Do you have that same passion for keeping your body holy, recognizing it as God’s dwelling place?
When Jesus spoke of destroying the temple and raising it up in three days (John 2:19), the Jews misunderstood Him, thinking He was talking about the physical temple. But He was talking about His body (John 2:21). This shows that God’s focus has always been on the spiritual temple—our bodies, not the physical building.
A Call to Righteousness:
We must be mindful of how we use and care for God’s temple. Be careful of what you allow into your body—what you consume, what you say, and how you live—because there is a day of reckoning. Jesus warned Peter, "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18). This promise is for those who keep their temple pure and holy, living according to His Word.
Remember, you are the Church, and the way you maintain your body reflects your commitment to Christ.
