Topic: Holiness: A Must-Have in This Dark Age
In a world filled with darkness, immorality, and spiritual compromise, believers are called to live a life of holiness. The Apostle Paul, in Ephesians 5:3-8, reminds us of the necessity of putting away all forms of sin—sexual immorality, greed, and obscene speech—and instead walking as children of light. Holiness is not an option; it is a mandatory trait for those who profess faith in Christ Jesus.
Genuine Transformation in Christ
When we truly live in Christ, there must be a visible and genuine transformation from our old sinful ways to a life that reflects His righteousness. 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” This means that our actions, thoughts, and decisions must reflect our identity as children of God.

The parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25:1-13 serves as a poignant reminder of the need to be spiritually prepared at all times. Just as the five foolish virgins missed the bridegroom because they were unprepared, we risk missing our eternal reward if we fail to live in holiness. Life is uncertain, and we do not know when our time will come. Therefore, we must live each day as though it were our last, walking in obedience and faithfulness to God.
The Role of Wisdom
James 1:5 emphasizes the importance of wisdom in living a holy life. Holiness requires discernment to navigate the challenges of this dark age. Wisdom enables us to distinguish between right and wrong, to make decisions that honor God, and to resist the temptations of the flesh. The good news is that God promises to give wisdom generously to all who ask Him.
Walking as Children of Light
Ephesians 5:8 states, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.” As believers, we are called to stand out in a world clouded by sin and spiritual apathy. Our lives should serve as beacons of hope and righteousness, drawing others to the truth of the gospel.
Conclusion
Holiness is not merely about following rules; it is about reflecting the character of God in all we do. It is about living in constant readiness for Christ’s return, seeking wisdom to make godly choices, and walking in the light of His presence. As we strive for holiness, let us remember that it is God who works in us to will and to act according to His good purpose (Philippians 2:13).
May we be found faithful, living lives that glorify God in this dark and challenging age.
