Be A Role Model for Holy Living

SUNDAY SERVICE
(COCIN Women Fellowship Week)
13th October, 2024

Speaker: Rev. Emmanuel I. Balere
Text: Hebrews 12:14-17
Topic: Be A Role Model for Holy Living

DAY ONE:
THE ROLE MODEL AND HOLY LIVING (1 Timothy 4:12)
A role model is someone whose behavior, example, or success serves as something to be emulated by others. There are three types of role models: Positive (e.g., Esther - Esther 2-4), Reverse (e.g., Hezekiah - 2 Kings 20:13-18), and Anti-role models (e.g., Demas - 2 Tim. 4:10).

Holy living, on the other hand, means being consecrated, sanctified, and separated unto God, remaining pure inside and out. The key to living a holy life lies in:
- disconnecting from worldly influences,
- fleeing from temptation, and
- obeying the word of God.

DAY TWO:
THE LEADER AS A ROLE MODEL (1 Peter 1:13-16)
Holiness is the foundation of Christian leadership, and the Bible emphasizes its importance. To maintain holiness as a leader, one must:
1. Walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:16-21)
2. Confess and repent (1 John 1:9)
3. Embrace the new nature in Christ (Rom. 6:6-7)
4. Regularly engage with God's word(2 Tim. 2:15)
5. Persist in prayer (Matt. 21:22)

DAY THREE: THE ROLE MODEL AND DECISION MAKING/CHOICES (Genesis 25:31)
The story of Esau selling his birthright for a meal teaches the lesson of valuing God's blessings over immediate gratification. It reminds us to:
  * Value God's blessings
  * Exercise self-control and consider long-term consequences
  * Prioritize spiritual gains over temporary desires by maintaining an eternal perspective.

Biblical figures like Deborah, Ruth, Abigail, Esther, and Mary exemplify wise decision-making. To overcome the temptation to make wrong choices, we must:
a. Rely on God's strength (Ps. 27:1)
b. Actively resist temptation (Rom. 13:14)
c. Abide in God's word (John 8:31-32)
Make radical, godly choices (Gen. 39:12)
d. Seek accountability (Prov. 27:17)
